“The Earth is what we all have in common.” — Wendell Berry
World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at St. Joseph’s Convent Senior Secondary School, Pulluvazhy, Kerala on 5 th June, 2026. The day was dedicated to fostering environmental awareness among students and inspiring them to become responsible caretakers of our planet. Through a variety of engaging and educational activities, students across all grades learned the importance of protecting and preserving nature. The celebration began with a delightful “Walk with Nature” organized for the young students. Filled with curiosity and excitement, the young learners explored the natural surroundings, observing trees, flowers, birds, and the beauty of the environment. This experience helped them develop an appreciation for nature and understand the importance of caring for it from an early age.
A special attraction of the day was the “Act for Earth” skit performed by the kindergarten children. Through their charming presentations, they conveyed meaningful messages about keeping the Earth clean, planting trees, conserving water, and protecting the environment. Their innocent yet powerful performances highlighted the role every individual can play in safeguarding our planet. Students of Classes I, II, and III actively participated in a Mosquito Repellent Planting Programme on the school campus. By planting medicinal and mosquito-repellent saplings, the children learned about the value of traditional medicinal plants and their contribution to health and ecological balance. The activity symbolized a collective commitment to nurturing nature and creating a healthier environment for future generations. For students of Classes IV and V, a memorable Monsoon Walk was organized to the Kaprikkad
Eco-Tourism Centre. Surrounded by lush greenery and rich biodiversity, the students experienced the beauty of nature firsthand. The visit provided valuable insights into the interconnectedness of humans and the environment, encouraging them to develop a deeper
respect for the natural world. A thought-provoking Nature Conservation Talk was conducted for students from Classes VI to XII by resource person Mr. Biju Mathew. During the session, he emphasized the urgent need to conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, protect forests, and safeguard wildlife. Studentswere encouraged to adopt eco-friendly habits such as minimizing plastic use, conserving water, and planting more trees in their communities.
The World Environment Day celebration was both educational and inspiring. Through nature walks, tree-planting activities, awareness programmes, and conservation talks, students gained a greater understanding of their responsibility toward the environment. The day’s events reinforced the message that every individual, regardless of age, has a role to play in protecting Mother Earth and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. St. Joseph’s Convent Senior Secondary School remains committed to nurturing environmentally conscious citizens who will contribute positively to the preservation of our planet.
